Participation of the Polish delegation at the conference “Innovation, Management and Economics in Lithuanian Railways Transport”
The conference was held on 27 March 2014 in Vilnius at the Vilnius College of Technologies and Design. It was an international conference with the participation of specialists in the field of transport and university lecturers specializing in rail transport. There were the representatives of Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Turkey and Latvia.
Poland was represented by representatives of the Technical University in Katowice: Magdalena Wierzbik-Strońska – WST Vice-Rector, Dr. Aleksander Ostenda – Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Applied Sciences and Karol Trzoński – lecturer, Bombardier Transportation (ZWUS) in Katowice: Zbigniew Książek, Szymon Stolecki and Jerzy Jakimowicz and company NEEL Ltd., Warsaw: Marek Stolarski – Chairman of the Board and Dorota Bartoszek – strategy and development director.
The first highlight of the conference was the signing of a cooperation agreement between Vilnius College of Technologies and Design and Technical College in Katowice. The signatories were Liucija Nijole Kikutiene – Director of the College of Technologies and Design, and, on behalf of WST, vice-rector Magdalena Wierzbik-Strońska and Dean Dr. Aleksander Ostenda. The agreement includes the exchange of students, organization of joint scientific conferences, publications of research papers in the in journals of these institutions and the conduct of both the joint research, and laboratory exercises.
During the presentations and lectures Karol Trzoński had a talk and presentation on innovative technologies in transport and presented the history of the railway faculty of the WST and postgraduate studies in the control device certification and railway interoperability. Szymon Stolecki and Zbigniew Książek in their paper and presentation discussed the design and implementation of traffic control devices and level crossings security devices of Bombardier on Lithuanian railways.
Marek Stolarski in his speech presented acoustic devices for animal protection UOZ-1 operated since 2004 in the railway network of PKP PLK. The NEEL company's CEO focused on associated issues concerning effects of animal collisions with trains from the point of view of animal safety and train traffic safety. He discussed in detail the reasons of this phenomenon and statistical data on the example of information obtained from Polish Regional Railways company, showing the actual scale and effects of the problem. There were also presented technical means and methods of limiting the scope of the problem – such as mechanical barriers (fencing and construction of over- and underpassages for animals), acoustic (acoustic device for animal protection UOZ-1) and optical means of prevention (wildlife warning reflectors), outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each solution.
In conclusion, he stressed that the protection systems of animals should be treated as one of many proven technologies that have a significant impact on the safety of the train. Conducted with the use of EU funds modernization of railway lines allow for improving the speed of trains to 160 km / h, new construction of substructure and modern, fast and quiet, but very resistant to the effects of a collision with a large and heavy animal fleet - a reason to seriously presented the lecture problem.
At the end of the conference there was a discussion about the exchange of experience, cooperation of scientists, industry and railways in different countries, whose representatives came to Vilnius.
